RMCS endeavors to adhere to the International Labour Organization’s guidelines and principles:
‘The International Labour Organization (ILO) constitution sets forth the
principle that workers should be protected from sickness, disease and
injury arising from employment.’ Furthermore, Article 18
(C155, Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981) states that
‘employers shall be required to provide, where necessary, for measures
to deal with emergencies and accidents, including adequate first-aid arrangements.’
The Director, Daniel D Smith’s career started in the South African Armed Forces
where he served as a trauma medic in a specialist unit that operate alongside
other specialist operational units within the SANDF.
He then augmented his skills base via University studies where he obtained his
civilian qualification in Emergency Medical Care in Johannesburg, then known
for its high crime and trauma rate. This improved his skills armamentarium
and led him to serve in African and Asian conflict zones, Construction Projects,
Aero medical Evacuation Services and other Commercial Projects.
To date, the Director has applied his skills and experience in South Africa,
Australia, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Tajikistan, Sudan, Mozambique, Timor Leste
and Iraq.
He has also completed a Bachelors degree in Health Science via Victoria University,
Melbourne Australia in addition to obtaining an Occupational Health and Safety
qualification from an Australian institution.
The Director is currently a registered health care professional with the HPCSA
and UK Health Professions Council.
